Leather Goods: Materials and Sourcing

Leather Types

Full-Grain Leather

We use full-grain leather scraps for the exterior of our pieces of our leather goods—renowned as the finest and most durable part of the hide. Its natural texture is rich with character, and over time, it develops a patina unique to its owner, ensuring every piece becomes more personal with use.

Split Leather

For internal components, we'll often use split leather, a byproduct of the leather industry. Lightweight and soft, it allows us to maximise every hide while balancing functionality and sustainability.

Chrome-Tanned Leather

Occasionally, we work with chrome-tanned leather, valued for its supple feel and flexibility. Its smooth surface and rich colour make it ideal for certain designs of our leather goods that require a softer, more pliable finish.

Waxed Leather

For rugged, water-resistant qualities, we incorporate waxed leather into our leather goods. Treated for durability, it offers a more textured, matte finish and is perfect for pieces designed to withstand the elements.

Sourcing

We carefully source our leather from local suppliers in Paris, chosen for their commitment to quality and sustainability.

Primary Material: Vegetable-Tanned Leather Scraps

  • Crafted using natural tannins from plants.
  • Free of harmful synthetic chemicals.
  • Ages gracefully, developing a unique patina over time.

Using scraps not only reduces environmental impact but also gives all our leather goods their own distinct story, reflected in the texture and natural variations of the leather.

Our approach extends beyond traditional sourcing to embrace sustainability:

Reclaimed Materials

Where possible, we source leather from forgotten or unused items, giving these materials a new purpose. Vintage shops and overlooked sources provide high-quality leathers that would otherwise go unused.

By reclaiming these materials, we preserve their natural beauty and transform them into something meaningful.

Every hide has a story to tell. We embrace its unique marks and textures, ensuring that no two leather goods we craft are ever the same.

Leather Treatments

Our collection of leather goods features ingrassato leather, a refined treatment that elevates the natural beauty and performance of our materials. This process infuses premium vegetable-tanned leather with oils and waxes, enhancing its durability, softness, and water resistance. Over time, ingrassato leather develops a rich patina, creating a piece that becomes uniquely yours with every use.

The smooth texture and subtle sheen of ingrassato leather make it the perfect foundation for our handcrafted leather goods, combining practicality with understated elegance.

This is just the beginning. We're continually exploring new treatments and finishes to bring you even more exceptional leather goods.

Leather Goods: Craftsmanship

Handmade in Paris

Each item in our leather goods collection is meticulously handcrafted in our Paris atelier, where precision and artistry define every step of the process. Our dedication to traditional techniques ensures each piece is both refined and built to last.

Our Craftsmanship Includes:

  • Hand-Skiving Edges: Using Japanese blades, each edge is carefully thinned for a seamless and elegant finish. Blades are hand-sharpened before every session for absolute precision.
  • Hand-Burnished Edges: Edges are polished by hand with heat and natural compounds, creating a smooth, durable finish that resists wear.
  • Hand-Waxed Threads: We use natural linen thread, waxed by hand with beeswax for enhanced strength and durability during saddler stitching.
  • Saddler Stitching: Every stitch is sewn by hand, ensuring impeccable strength and detail unmatched by machines.
  • Precision Cutting: Each piece is hand-cut for accuracy, respecting the natural character of the leather.

We embrace small imperfections in the leather as part of its unique character. These subtle marks tell a story, adding authenticity and charm to every piece of leather goods we create.

Sustainability Practices

Our commitment to sustainability extends to our production processes:

  • Waste Reduction: We repurpose unsold items and leather scraps to create new pieces.
  • Natural Finishing: We use water-based dyes and natural waxes, preserving the leather's integrity while being environmentally responsible.
  • Carbon Removal: A portion of our revenue supports certified carbon removal organisations, helping capture and store carbon for long-term climate solutions.

Design philosophy

Crafted in Paris, these leather goods are inspired by the city's essence—from the cobbled streets of Montorgueil to the vibrant hues of Marché Bastille. They combine this energy with timeless craftsmanship and everyday practicality.
